Webinar on successful career in law

The Lawyers & Jurists Foundation has initiated a digital webinar series on 'Road Map from Legal Studies to a Successful Career' aimed at providing guidelines to the law students in pursuing a successful career. The first episode of the webinar series was streamed live on a number of platforms, including Facebook, on August 7, 2020.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. A. M. Masum, Barrister-at-Law, Advocate, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and the Founder of The Lawyers & Jurists Foundation.  The discussants were Professor Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, Comilla University; Mr. Md. Ruhul Quddus (Kazal), Barrister-at-law, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association; Mr. Rasheed Ahmed, Barrister-at-law, Executive Vice President and Head of Legal Affairs and Recovery Division of Brac Bank Limited and Ms. Roksana Akhter, Chairman, Department of Law, Comilla University.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. A. M. Masum underscored the issues of primary concern for the law students. Apart from the role of universities in getting the students trained, he emphasised on the role of Bar Council and Bar Association in supporting the apprentice lawyers.  

Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus (Kazal) shared his personal experiences in becoming a successful legal practitioner. Reflecting on the delayed enrollment process, he opined that Bangladesh Bar Council should proactively take initiatives for facilitating a proper transition for the law students into their legal profession. He also mentioned the need for providing incentives to the newcomers based on merit. 

Barrister Rasheed Ahmed emphasised the need for academic excellence, passion and commitment for entering legal profession and recommended the students to work on their negotiation, drafting, vocabulary skills and on their overall self-development with the help of the universities.

Ms. Roksana Akhter as the Chairman of Department of Law of Comilla University commented that her university is committed to help the students in pursuing a successful career and becoming a responsible active citizen of the country.

Professor Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury discussed the policies, planning and allocation of Comilla University and pledged for arranging trainings, seminars, and career counseling sessions for the law students to help them cope up with the needs of time. He proposed for evaluative internship opportunities for the graduates of law and requested the professionals to help them in the process.  

The webinar was hosted by Humayra Noor, Advocate, District and Session Judges Court, Dhaka and International Civil-Commercial Mediator, and was coordinated by Nazmus Sakib, Associate of The Lawyers & Jurists Foundation.
