Hefajat leader Mamunul on 15-day remand

A Narayanganj court today placed Mamunul Haque, joint general secretary of Hefajat-e Islam's former central committee, on a 15-day remand in connection with five cases.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir passed the order when Mamunul was produced before the court virtually, our local correspondent reports.

The district's Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman said that police sought a 38-day remand for Mamunul in the cases. The court granted total 15 days to take Mamunul in remand, he added.

Manirul Islam, superintendent of police in Narayanganj of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), said an accused in one of the five cases confessed his crime during the violence in Siddhirganj as per instruction of Mamunul on March 28.

Among the five cases, another was filed by a woman whom Mamunul claimed to be his second wife, on April 24.
