HC directs BTRC to remove Al Jazeera report from online platforms

The High Court today directed the BTRC to remove the content of Al Jazeera's report titled "All the Prime Minister's Men" from all online platforms.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Islam Mollah passed the order after disposing of a writ petition that sought a ban on the broadcast of Al Jazeera report.

WHAT BTRC CHAIRMAN SAID

Speaking on the issue, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder said they had earlier approached YouTube and Facebook authorities to remove the Al Jazeera content from the platform.

In response, YouTube said that they cannot remove the content as it has not violated their Community Guideline, the BTRC chairman said. Facebook authorities also said the same, he added.

"Now, it will be easier for us to approach YouTube and Facebook again after the High Court directive," he added.
