The High Court granted ad-interim bail to BNP leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury in two cases filed over arson and subversive activities, clearing the way for her to walk out of jail.

The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Mohammad Ali granted bail to Nipun today till the submission of police reports to the trial court.

The bench passed the bail orders after hearing two separate petitions filed by Nipun.

Nipun's lawyer Zainul Abedin told The Daily Star that the HC granted bail hearing that his client did not make the alleged phone call, which was spread on social media, ordering to torch vehicles in March.

Besides, the accused bail petitioner has been suffering in jail for a long period, he said.

Zainul Abedin said there is no legal bar for his client's release following the HC's bail order.

Deputy Attorney General Harun ur Rashid told this correspondent that the state might move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, challenging the HC's bail orders.

Nipun, who is also a member of BNP's Central Executive Committee, was arrested on two separate charges of conspiracy to sabotage buses and carry out subversive activities during Hefajat-e-Islam's March 28 shutdown.
