Arms case: Man sentenced to life in prison in Chapainawabganj

A Chapainawabganj court today sentenced a man to life in prison for possessing illegal fire arms.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Rabiul Islam gave the verdict in presence of the convict after examining the witnesses and evidence, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.

The convict Alauddin (55) is from Chamatola village under Shibganj upazila in the district.

Other than this, a man named Nasir from Zaminpur village under Shibganj was acquitted in the case by the judge.

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Alauddin on March 13, 2016 from a mango orchard in Chalk Ghorapakhia village in Shibganj. Police seized eight pistols, 16 magazines and 140 bullets from his possession.

Later that day, Nayem Subedar Mofazzal Hossain Mridha of Rab-5 filed a case against Alauddin with Shibganj Police Station under the Arms Act.

On April 13, 2016, Sub-inspector Masud Rana, the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against Alauddin and Nasir.
