Launch set on fire at Sadarghat

Launch set on fire at Sadarghat

Nine cabins of a three-storey launch were gutted in a fire at Sadarghat in Dhaka this evening.

A person was injured in the fire which comes amid the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide nonstop blockade.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately but officials concerned suspect blockaders may be behind this.

The fire started from a cabin at MV Tipu-6 docked at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal around 5:55pm, Abdul Halim, a deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, told The Daily Star.

The firemen doused the flames around 6:10pm, he added.

Nine cabins of the launch which was scheduled to leave Sadarghat at 7:30pm for Pirojpur were burned down in the incident, the fire service official said.
