Last gasp Mithun sinks MSC

A stoppage-time strike from Mithun Chowdhury helped Sheikh Russsel KC notch up a 1-0 win over Mohammedan SC in their Nitol Tata Bangladesh Premier League encounter at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Mohammedan enjoyed the lion's share of procession throughout the game but could not expose the Sheikh Russel backline despite. But it was Sheikh Russsel, who secured all three points with the only shot on target, which came deep into injury time. The goal for Sheikh Russel came from a counter-attack, when Mithun ran down the left flank to dodge past defender Mintu Shiekh before unleashing a powerful shot from the edge of the box which beat Mohammedan goalkeeper Mamun Khan. The Black and Whites had earlier been reduced to 10 men when Bayback picked up a second yellow card in the 80th minute.
Despite the win, both Mohammedan and Sheikh Russel remained at their previous positions. Mohammedan are in third position with 32 points from 18 matches while Sheikh Russel remain at sixth with 24 points from 18 outings.
“We would have gone up to the second position had we won the match but it was bad luck to concede defeat despite dominating the match,” said Mohammedan's Portuguese coach Rui Capela Batista, who returned to Bangladesh after a couple of days ago, and assured that he would accompany his charges till the end of the season.
“It was a great win for us playing with local players, who blocked the attacks of Mohammedan and then scored a goal,” said Sheikh Russel's Montenegrin coach Dragan Djukanovic.
