Kidnapping gang busted in capital

Six arrested

Detective Branch of police in a raid arrested six members of a kidnapping gang including two females at a residence at Maddha Paikpara in the capital's Mirpur on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy of DB (South) yesterday disclosed this at a press briefing at the Media Centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The arrested were Abu Taleb, 68, ringleader of the gang; Azahar Uddin Khan, 42; Mohammad Mostafa, 40; Shamim Sikder, 25; Dola Akter, 20; and Salma Begum, 45.
Dola used to make affairs with affluent persons over the phone and invite them to different rented flats when the relationship gets deeper, the DC said.
When any person met her there, the other frauds used to intervene introducing themselves as DB men or journalists and demand money by shooting photographs, he added.  
In primary investigation, the six confessed that they had blackmailed at least three people and taken Tk 46 lakh in fraudulent way in the last one year, he said.
Detectives also seized a pair of handcuff, one walky-talky and a digital camera from their possession.
Of the arrestees, Taleb introduced himself as an assistant commissioner, Azahar as an inspector, Mostafa as a sub-inspector of DB, and Salma as Dola's aunt.
