Khaleda vows to topple govt

Khaleda Zia

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today warned that she would wage a tough movement to topple the government.
"We won't go back home without unseating the government," she said while addressing a rally at Nilphamari High School ground, aiming at mobilising public support in favour of her demand for holding a fresh national poll under a non-party administration.
"I am just mobilising the people. I will make an announcement of the anti-government campaign at an appropriate time. You (people) just get prepared to make the movement a success," she said.
Calling the government illegal, repressive and killer, Khaleda said people know how to force the government to arrange an immediate general election under a non-party administration.
"Awami League has come to power through an election held in an undemocratic manner," she blamed and said it has no right to run the country.
Citing corruption in the power sector, Khaleda blamed the government for its plan to increase the prices of gas and electricity without any justification.
"If it is done, we along with the people will never accept it. We will protest it," she said.
The former prime minister said no foreign country has recognised the government through it has tried to garner the recognition by visiting door-to-door.
"Recognition is not possible to be gained by holding photo sessions abroad. There is no democracy and rule of law in the country which is known by all," she added.
Earlier, in a short speech before her departure from Bogra Circuit House, she called upon the leaders and activists to strengthen the party for waging a tougher anti-government movement in the coming days.
“Everyone knows the prevailing situation in the country due to the misrule of the Sheikh Hasina-led government,” Khaleda said.
Khaleda left Bogra around 11:40am this morning for Nilphamari to address there a public rally.
Khaleda also praised party VP Saiful, president of Bogra district unit BNP, and awarded him as the best political organiser of the party before her departure.
Khaleda is scheduled to return Dhaka tonight.
