Khaleda should say sorry: Suranjit

Khaleda should say sorry: Suranjit

Suranjit Sengupta

Awami League senior leader Suranjit Sengupta today asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to apologise to the nation for her claims regarding country's first president.

Khaleda yesterday claimed that her husband and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was the first president of Bangladesh as he proclaimed the Independence of the country.

Khaleda's elder son Tarique Rahman earlier raised the issue claiming his father as country's first president.

"To make the nation divided and mislead the countrymen, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are making such remarks. For that Khaleda Zia should make apology to the countrymen," Suranjit said while addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Terming Khaleda's claim “unusual and funny”, the AL advisory council member smelt a conspiracy behind such remarks. “No constitutional as well as historic base of their claim as Ziaur Rahman did never claim himself to be the country's first president," Suranjit said.

He alleged that BNP never wants any united nation and when the countrymen are going to get united with the sprit of Liberation War, BNP is hatching a conspiracy to divide the nation.
