Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Badiuzzaman today blasted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for calling the ACC an “impunity commission”.
“It is a political statement,” Badiuzzaman told journalists after inaugurating a function marking the 10th founding anniversary of the ACC at its Segunbagicha headquarters, reports the Daily Prothom Alo.
On November 12, Khaleda at a Kishoreganj rally said that the ACC has turned into an “impunity commission” as the ruling party leaders are being cleared of corruption charges by it.
In his reaction, the ACC boss said, “It’s a politically motivated speech which she should have not made. Criticisms should be constructive.”
Responding to another query, he said legal measures are being taken against corrupt people on the basis of investigation reports.
“None would be spared,” the Bangla daily quoted the Badiuzzaman as saying at the function.
Stating that no measures had earlier been taken against the ruling party leaders, he claimed that the incumbent commission has been taking actions against the ruling party leaders and lawmakers.
The ACC would go for legal action against ministers and lawmakers if specific allegations are found, he warned.
Earlier, the ACC investigators have recommended suing Awami League lawmaker from Rajshahi-4 Enamul Haque for earning wealth worth around Tk 216 crore by illegal means.
Asked, he said no decision has yet been taken in this regard.
