Jurgensen resigns as Bangladesh coach
Bangladesh coach Shane Jurgensen has resigned from his position after a string of poor performances by the national cricket team, ESPNcricinfo reports.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has received the Australian's resignation letter and is believed to have begun its search for a new coach some time ago.
Jurgensen became full-time coach for the national team in February 2013 after doing the interim job quite successfully for one series, against West Indies, in 2012.
He was given a two-year contract until the 2015 World Cup but Bangladesh's recent results had created uncertainty over his future in the role.
Bangladesh were crushed by Sri Lanka in the first Test in January this year, before bouncing back with a drawn game in Chittagong. They lost the T20 and ODI series, albeit through narrow defeats.
The Asia Cup brought them four defeats, including one to Afghanistan, while their World T20 campaign crumbled when they were shocked by Hong Kong in the first round, added the ESPNcricinfo report.
The results had sparked speculation that the BCB would seek a new coach with international experience before the World Cup next year and, last week, sources in the board told ESPNcricinfo that there was a search for a coach with a batting background.
The BCB will now need to find a replacement for Jurgensen by mid-June in time for the three-match ODI series against India. The board may also explore bringing in short-term specialised consultants from among the recent crop of retired international players.
