A local Jubo League man has continued illegal construction on an occupied government land beside Gournadi upazila health complex under the district.
On January 17 this year, Sohel Sardar, a member of Gournadi municipality Jubo League convening committee, started construction work after occupying 27 decimals of land belonging to the 56-decimal government land on plot No 216 of SA Khatian No 226, said sources of local land office and police.
The remaining 29 decimals of land of the plot is under the possession of Gournadi upazila health complex.
As Mofizul Islam, Mahilara union assistant land officer, lodged a case against land grabber Sohel Sardar with Gournadi police station, Sohel gave a written bond promising to return the occupied land.
But on Sunday, Sohel resumed his construction work on the same land.
Contacted, Sohel claimed that he has got legal permission from the authorities concerned to restart construction works on the land.
He, however, declined to say anything specific regarding the matter.
Abul Kalam, officer in charge of Gournadi police station, said, "The case lodged by the land office is still valid and we will soon take action against Sohel."
