Feni police today arrested a Jubo League activist for his alleged link with the killing of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haq.

Ziaul Haque Bappi, 30, was arrested from Daganbhuiyan upazila at noon, reports our Feni correspondent quoting Md Alamgir, deputy inspector of Feni Model Police Station.

Ekramul, who was the president of Phulgazi union Awami League, was shot and then burnt alive in his car in broad day-light on May 20.

With Bappi, police have so far arrested 21 people in connection with the gruesome murder.

Yesterday, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the lone named accused in the case filed by Ekramul’s brother Rezaul Haq.

Rezaul filed the case with Feni Model Police Station against Minar and 34 unnamed person a day after the murder.

Of the arrestees, Minar, Bappi, Abdur Rouf and Sajeeb will be produced before a Feni court with 10 days’ remand prayer for them.
