Jubo Dal man killed in Laxmipur ‘shootout’

An activist of Jubo Dal, youth front of BNP, was killed in an alleged gunfight between his cohorts and police at Chandraganj in Laxmipur Sadar upazila last night.
Md Aziz Ahmed Rony, 30, son of Makbul Ahmed of Dewpara village, was a bodyguard of Jisan, chief of the notorious Solayman Uddin Jisan gang, police claimed.
Meanwhile, his family alleged that police shot dead Rony hours after detaining him yesterday.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Sadar Police Station, said a team of police conducted a raid in Latifpur area to nab Jisan around 10:00pm.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members started firing at the policemen, forcing the lawmen to retaliate.
At one stage, Rony caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet wounds.
He was rushed to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries later.
Police said three lawmen -- constables Ibrahim Sheikh, Mohammad Ali and Prodesh Kanti Debnath -- were also injured in the gunfight. They were taken to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Police seized a revolver and twelve rounds of bullets from the spot.
Rony was wanted in several cases filed with the police station, the OC added.
Meanwhile, his father Makbul Ahmed alleged that Rony was an established businessman owning two shops in local Chandraganj Bazar.
He alleged that the Detective Branch of police picked up his son by their patrol car from a shop at Palwan Bazar on Monday afternoon.
Later, the law enforcers in a planned way shot at his leg and killed his son, Makbul said demanding a fair investigation into the incident.
Laxmipur District Unit of Jubo Dal President Rezaul Karim Liton said Rony was an activist of the BNP’s youth front.
