The High Court today granted one-year bail to Jubo Dal chief Moazzem Hossain Alal and five others in a case filed on charge of planning to carry out subversive activities.
There is no legal bar to the release of the six from jail following the HC order, their lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star.
Police on October 25 arrested Alal along with 62 activists of the BNP and its front organisations from his Lalmatia residence in the city in a bid to foil their alleged plan to carry out subversive activities during hartal on October 26.
Police filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station against them under Special Powers Act, 1974.
The HC today granted ad-interim bail to six accused including Alal for one year and issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why they should not be granted regular bail in the case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore came up with the order and rule after hearing two separate bail petitions filed by the accused.
