Journalist killing in Noakhali: Family, colleagues frustrated with lack of progress

Five days have passed but law enforcers could not manage to arrest anyone in connection with the death of journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir in a shooting between two factions of Awami League at Companiganj in Noakhali.

The delay in arresting the killers has frustrated the family members as well as colleagues of the journalist.

Meanwhile, the murder case filed by the victim's father Nurul Huda Master Station has been handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

"Police could not even identify who shot my brother, let alone arrest anyone," the victim's elder brother Nur Uddin said, expressing his discontent over the investigation. 

"Now, PBI has been tasked with the case. We hope that PBI officials will be able to identify and arrest the killers soon," Nur Uddin told The Daily Star.  

Senior journalist Bakhtier Sikder, also former president of Noakhali Press Club, expressed his frustration and said law enforcers should immediately identify those who used illegal firearms and killed the journalist.

On February 19, a deadly clash took place between two factions of ruling Awami League-- One group was led by Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader and anther by Mizanur Rahman Badal, organising secretary of upazila unit AL--over establishing supremacy.

Muzakkir, a correspondent of online portal Barta Bazar, who was injured with bullets during the clash died the next day at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

After taking charge of the case, PBI special superintendent in Noakhali Mizanur Rahman Munshi and his team visited the murder spot, talked to the family members and witnesses.
