Jatiya Kobita Utshab concludes
With the theme “Jago Sambhabonaye Jago Kobitaye”, the 29th Jatiya Kobita Utshab (National Poetry Festival) concluded yesterday at Hakim Chattar, University of Dhaka. Renowned poet and ambidextrous litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq inaugurated the festival, organised by Jatiya Kobita Parishad (JKP). Poets and members of JKP placed wreaths at the graves of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Patua Quamrul Hassan and the altar of Central Shaheed Minar.
Poet Kazi Rosy placed a condolence motion for the deceased luminaries of the previous year, while poet Nurul Huda delivered the declaration for the year. Poet Muhammad Samad, convener of the festival; Tarik Sujat and Aslam Sunny, joint conveners of the festival, were among others to speak at the event. Poet Habibullah Sirajee, President of JKP, presided over the programme. The festival was dedicated to eminent educationist Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui and renowned artist Qayyum Chowdhury.
The festival set off with the rendition of the National Anthem and the festival anthem. Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman presided over the first episode of poetry recitation on the opening day. About 200 poets recited their own poetry. Alongside Bangladeshi poets, noted poets and writers from China, India, Malaysia, Sweden, Denmark, USA, Switzerland, Belgium and Ecuador recited their poems at the festival. Noted elocutionists of the country took part in the recitation session, presided over by noted theatre and cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar.
On the concluding day (February 2) poet Mohammad Rafiq was conferred with the Jatiya Kabita Puroshkar 2014. Two seminars on the titles “Notun Kobita: Juganter Ahwan” and “Bangladesh-er Kobita: Bhabroop-er Palabodol” were held yesterday. Renowned poets – Nirmalendu Goon, Asad Chowdhury, Belal Chowdhury and Shihab Sarkar presided over poetry recitation sessions where Bangladeshi and Malaysian poets took part. Noted cultural personality Nasiruddin Yousuff presided over a session of performances of songs composed on poetry.
