‘Japan willing to hire skilled manpower from Bangladesh’

Bangladesh can export skilled manpower to Japan which is scheduled to host summer Olympics in 2020, said a visiting delegation of the Asian economic giant today.
Kazuo Tusubota, managing director of Japanese International Manpower Development Organisation (IMDO, Japan), expressed his government’s eagerness to hire skilled workers from Bangladesh, said officials at the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.
He today met Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain in the latter’s office in Dhaka.
“Japan needs skilled workers for different sectors including construction and technological industries ahead of 2020 Olympics festival,” Deputy Secretary Mohammad Ibrahim, who is now serving as personal secretary to the minister, told The Daily Star.
The Asian economic giant has a demand of around 23,00 technical interns every year and the Bangladeshis can tap the opportunity, he added.
He, however, said the interested jobseekers must have minimum educational background and Japanese language skill for obtaining the job in the country.
Quoting the minister, Ibrahim said a ministerial level meeting may be held between the two friendly countries by next January or February in this regard.
Currently, Bangladesh has a labour wing in Japan to deal with the manpower issue.
According to statistics of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), at least 56 Bangladeshis went to Japan in the last 11 months this year while 41 migrants had gone there last year.
Earlier in September, another Japanese delegation visited Bangladesh and expressed their interest to hire workers from Bangladesh.
