Jamaat-Shibir men attack cops in Rajshahi

Hours after the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict on war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, today attacked law enforcers in Rajshahi city.
They hurled crude bombs and brick chips at the law enforcers on duty in several parts of the city, said Tanvir Haider Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
The clash erupted between the Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled seven handmade bombs targeting the policemen, the police official said.
Police were compelled to fire at least 100 rounds of rubber bullets to scatter the attackers, the DC said. “They tried to restore to vandalism, but the law enforcers thwarted it.”
Jamaat-Shibir supporters also brought out flash processions and attacked policemen in Binodpur, Daspukur, Dingadona and Shalbagan areas, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
However, no immediate news of any casualty was reported.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court commuted the death sentence of war criminal Sayedee to imprisonment until death in response to an appeal filed by the Jamaat leader.
