Islamic parties threaten with hartal on Oct 26

An alliance of different Islamic parties has threatened the government with imposing a daylong hartal (shutdown) on October 26 if Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique is not arrested in 15 days.
The alliance issued the threat at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka this afternoon, two days after the minister made "derogatory" comments about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, hajj, Tablighi Jamaat and journalists in New York.
"We will be forced to enforce a day-long hartal on October 26 if Latif is not arrested by October 15," Zafrullah Khan, secretary general of the alliance, said at the press conference.
Zafrullah Khan is also the joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam
The alliance of around 10 Islamic parties include Khilafat Majlis and Khilaft-e-Islam, Islami Oikya Jote, Nejam-e-Islam, Muslim League and Hefajat-e Islam, of which many of them are the component of BNP-led 18-party combine.
