Inqilab says sorry for Satkhira report

Authorities of Bangla newspaper The Daily Inqilab regretted for publishing a report on Indian forces participation in operation in Satkhira, a day after detectives sealed off the press of the daily.

Detectives on Thursday night raided the Inqilab office on the capital's RK Mission Road, rounded up the three newsmen, seized three computers and sealed off the press, plate-making and server rooms for publishing 'false news on Indian forces participation in joint forces operation in violence-hit Satkhira district.

The newspaper on its website today uploaded a notice headlined: "We are sorry."

Quoting the editor of the daily the notice also reads: "While publishing such types of sensitive news, (the newspaper) should be more careful so that such kinds of repetition do not took place."

“It is our request to the readers not to make any statement which goes against religion, state and abstain from any kind of provocation,” the notice added claiming that the newspaper is always respectful to constitution and public opinion.

The move against the Bangla daily came hours after Sub-inspector Jahangir Alam of Wari Police Station lodged a case under the ICT act and the penal code accusing Inqilab Editor AMM Bahauddin and three other journalists.

They have been accused of running a “baseless” report on Thursday claiming that Indian forces had taken part in operations in Satkhira ahead of the January 5 parliamentary polls.
