Restaurants to function in half capacity, malls to open in New Delhi: Delhi CM

India's national capital Delhi today announced another major round of easing Covid-19-induced restrictions, joining a number of other states which are opening up in a regulated manner after stringent lockdowns.

Announcing further easing of Delhi's Covid-19 lockdown, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said all restaurants will be allowed to reopen at half their seating capacity and all market complexes and malls will be allowed to open as well, reports our New Delhi correspondent. However, all social, political and cultural events would continue to remain banned due to the pandemic.

India reported 80,834 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, its lowest rise in daily cases in 71 days and more than 3,300 deaths in the same timeframe.

The southern state of Tamil Nadu today announced more relaxations in 27 districts which include allowing tea shops to reopen from June 14 and the Assam government asked all its employees who have received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine to join offices from Monday even though a partial lockdown across the state will remain in force.

Delhi reported 213 fresh cases, the lowest since March 9, and 28 deaths on Saturday, according to official data.
