Kolkata Metro Fire: Many passengers suffocate due to smoke, several faint

Many passengers suffocated due to smoke while several fainted as a fire broke out in Kolkata Metro yesterday, according to the reports coming in from Kolkata.

It is stated that the fire started around 5:25pm in the first coach of a train between Rabindra Sadan and Maidan stations.

"The fire was put off by our staff through water from fire hydrants," said West Bengal Fire Service. Kolkata Police and Disaster Management groups are attending to the affected while passengers have been evacuated.

As a result of the smoke, many passengers fell sick while some are reported to have fainted due to suffocation.

Rescue operations are underway and many passengers have been rushed to the hospital.

Kolkata Metro services have also been delayed due to the fire, say reports.
