India’s NIA arrests another Burdwan blast suspect

An Indian suspect in the October 2014 Burdwan blast incident in West Bengal, who had been absconding for more than four years, was arrested by India's counter-terror body National Investigation Agency in Bengaluru yesterday, reports our New Delhi correspondent

Habibur Rehman Sheikh, who was charge-sheeted in the Burdwan blast case for his direct involvement in the conspiracy of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to wage war against governments of India and Bangladesh, was apprehended from an area near India's IT hub. 

The NIA said in a media statement on Tuesday evening that Habibur Rehman Sheikh was a close associate of senior JMB leader Jahidul Islam and other JMB leaders like Rahamatullah Sheikh and Moulana Yusuf.

Habibur was an active member of JMB, Bolpur module in West Bengal and had attended a number of training camps conducted by JMB, the agency said.

He was produced before a special court in Bengaluru which granted five days' transit remand for producing him before another special NIA court in Kolkata.
