Bangladesh mission in New Delhi celebrates Bangabandhu’s Home-coming Day

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's home-coming day was celebrated at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, capital of India, today with diplomats and other staff paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh.

The home-coming of Bangabandhu from a Pakistani jail on January 10 in 1972 was the culmination of Bangladesh's victory in the nine-month long 1971 Liberation War against Pakistani occupation forces.

To mark the occasion, Minister (Political) Nurul Islam opened a discussion held at the mission in which Minister (Press) Farid Hossain and Minister (Consular) Selim Md Jahangir took part, highlighting the significance of the day, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

The meeting was conducted by First Secretary and Head of Chancery Shahed Bin Aziz.

Messages from Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by Counsellor (Economic) Mohd Rashedul Amin and First Secretary Zakir Ahmed.

After the discussion, the mission was linked to live telecast of the inauguration of the countdown to the celebration of "Mujib Year", the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the countdown to the "Mujib Year" with a colourful ceremony at the Old Airport in Tejgaon this afternoon.
