India today reported its second case of deadly novel coronavirus in Kerala, three days after the southern state reported the country's first case of the infectious disease that originated in China.

"Second positive case of Novel Coronavirus patient has been reported in Kerala. The patient has a travel history from China. The patient is stable and is being closely monitored," the Indian Health Ministry said.

The patient is said to have returned from China on January 24, our New Delhi correspondent reports quoting the ministry.

On Thursday, Kerala reported India's first case of coronavirus - a female medical student studying in China's Wuhan city, the epicenter of the outbreak. She was quarantined at a hospital in Thrissur after she "self-reported" throat infection, the government said.

More than 800 people are under surveillance at their homes in Kerala for possible exposure to the virus.

Possible cases are also being monitored in isolation wards of hospitals in various Indian cities including Delhi and Mumbai.

Coronavirus outbreak was declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation as it spread to more than 20 countries across the world and left more than 300 people dead in China.

Meanwhile, a second Air India flight carrying 323 stranded Indian citizens from China's virus-hit Wuhan city reached New Delhi this morning.

Seven citizens of the Maldives were also evacuated on the same plane.

The first Air India flight brought back 324 Indians nationals from Wuhan on Saturday.
