A section of Gonojagoron Mancha today claimed that Imran H Sarker has been removed from the post of the platform’s spokesperson.

One Kamal Pasha Chowdhury, who claimed to be an organiser of the Shahbagh-based youth forum, came up with the announcement at a press conference in front of National Museum in the capital.

The section held the conference under the banner of “Activists and Organisers of Gonojagoron Mancha” where most of the participants are the activists of Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command, a platform of sons and daughters of freedom fighters, and Gourob '71.

They said they would form a five-member spokesmen panel for the group and an interim team to formulate draft constitution for the mancha. The draft would be finalised through a council soon, they added.

Replying to a question, Kamal Pasha said they came up with the decision after discussing with different cultural and student bodies including Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree that were involved with the mancha.

However, Bappaditya Basu, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree, said they sat in a meeting with them on February 8 but did not give consent to removal of Imran as spokesperson.

Refuting the claim, Imran H Sarker told The Daily Star that those who organised the press conference were not involved with the organisation actively.

Terming the mancha a nonpolitical organisation; Imran claimed that the participants of the press conference were involved in different pro-Awami League organisations.

“Even they were not seen in any meeting of mancha for the last one year,” he claimed.

Sarker is also the convener of the Mancha, which was formed immediately after International Crimes Tribunal handed down life term imprisonment to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah on February 5.

Thousands of people imbued with the spirit of ’71 have demanded capital punishment for the war criminals from the Mancha.
