HAPPY MOMENT

A STUMPING BLUNDER: West Indies wicketkeeper Shai Hope missed a glorious opportunity to stump MS Dhoni for eight as he failed to catch the ball properly when the batsman had left the crease. Dhoni capitalised on it with a valuable unbeaten half-century at Old Trafford yesterday. Photo: Reuters

West Indies wicketkeeper Shai Hope missed the chance to stump MS Dhoni twice in the 33rd over when the Indian wicket-keeper batsman was batting on just eight from 14 deliveries. It was a series of comical errors from the Windies keeper. He saw Dhoni miles off his crease but, perhaps in his excitement, failed to gather the ball. Dhoni began running back once he noticed Hope’s blunder and, in a hurry this time around, Hope reached down for the balll and attempted to flick it onto the stumps. However, his throw went well wide of the mark, allowing the Indians the chance to run a bye. Hope’s embarassment was finally complete when he missed the ensuing throw at the non-strikers end, but it was a happy moment for India.
