ICC against reduction of Ash's ban

ICC against reduction of Ash's ban

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland against the verdict of the chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's disciplinary committee.
Justice Mohammad Abdur Rashid last month reduced Mohammad Ashraful and five other cricketers and officials' punishment served by an anti-corruption tribunal, set up by the BCB, for their part in the Bangladesh Premier League match-fixing.
This appeal would be the last phase with regards to this case.
The verdict reduced Ashraful's ban to five years from eight. According to BCB's CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the ICC appealed against the reduction in Ashraful's ban.
"The ICC has confirmed that it lodged an appeal against the verdict given by the chairman of the BCB's disciplinary panel with regards to Mohammad Ashraful and five others. The BCB has authorised the ICC to take all the decisions in this issue," said Nizamuddin.
The ICC has also appealed against the verdicts on cricketers Mahbubul Alam Robin and Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, who were cleared of all charges by both the disciplinary panel and the BCB's anti-corruption tribunal.
The ICC and the BCB initially appealed to the chairman of the disciplinary panel against the verdict given by the BCB's three-member anti-corruption tribunal.
Dissatisfied with the chairman's verdict, the ICC has now resorted to the court in Switzerland.
