Hospital manager performs surgery!

Hospital manager performs surgery!

Patient dies in Thakurgaon

A woman died while giving birth to a stillborn through a caesarean section allegedly performed by the hospital manager, who was not a doctor, at a private hospital in Thakurgaon town on Monday evening.
The victim was identified as Jaba Rani, 35, wife of Madan Chandra Roy of Madansako village at Birganj upazila in Dinajpur.
The husband told this correspondent that he had brought his wife to New Square Hospital while she was in labour pain around 1:30pm.
They waited for around three and a half hours as there was no surgeon at the hospital. Then, around 5:00pm, manager and co-owner of the hospital Md Shahin, who had no medical credentials at all, took Jaba Rani to the operation theatre and performed the C-section with no doctor or trained nurse present, according to Madan.
After delivering a stillborn, Jaba started bleeding profusely and Shahin gave her an injection which deteriorated her condition. She eventually died around 6:30pm, said the bereaved husband.
"After killing my wife, Shahin offered to pay us the transport cost and asked us to leave the hospital immediately. But we did not leave," Madan said.
Four and a half hours of her death, a local journalist came to know about this and informed the Superintendent of Police of Thakurgaon.
The SP then sent Officer-in-Charge of Thakurgaon Police Station Firoz Khan to the hospital. Police recovered the body at around 12:00 midnight and sent it to the Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. However, Shahin and his partner Kamruzzaman Babu had already fled the spot.
Later, Executive Magistrate Wasimul Bari conducted a drive yesterday morning and sealed off the hospital after shifting its patients to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. Assistant manager of the hospital Ferdous Alam and nurses Shila Rani Sarker and Shahnaz Pervin were arrested during the drive.
However, sources said Shila and Shahnaz were not present at the hospital when the operation was performed as their duty had ended at 3:00pm.
Victim's husband filed a murder case early yesterday against co-owners Shahin and Babu and other staffs of the hospital.
