Crude bombs blasted near businessmen’s protest venue

BGMEA Bhaban in Dhaka city

A crude bomb went off near the BGMEA Bhaban at Kawran Bazar in Dhaka where garments manufacturers have been holding a token hunger strike since this morning.

None was reported injured in the blast.

The businessmen, soon after the blast at 12:30pm, blocked the adjacent road in front of the building of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), halting traffic movement till 1:15pm when the report was filed.

Additional law enforcers have been deployed at the scene to avert any further untoward incidents.

Around 200 businessmen including garment manufacturers and exporters began their token hunger strike since 11:00am demanding to put an end to the ongoing political impasse that affects the country’s economy.

The businessmen will continue the protest programme till this evening.

Leaders and representatives from BGMEA, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and transport sectors attended the programme.
