Homage paid to Prof Zillur

He was laid to rest at Banani graveyard

People of all walks of life paid their last tributes to Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, a leading educationist, at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital yesterday.
Queuing up before the coffin, they placed wreaths one after another and stood in silence for sometime to pray for his departed soul when his body was lying in state there for over one hour.
Prof Zillur, an adviser to the first caretaker government, breathed his last Tuesday night. He was buried at Banani graveyard after the third namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers. His second janaza was held on Dhaka University Central Mosque premises.
Before that, the coffin was taken to Jahagirnagar University, where he was elected vice chancellor twice.
Speaking at Central Shaheed Minar, Professor Emeritus of DU Serajul Islam Choudhury said Zillur was meticulous in his writings.
He promoted free thinking, said Anisuzzaman, another professor emeritus of the university.
Calling Zillur one of the country's best educationists, jurist Dr Kamal Hossain said he left an example to follow as a teacher and a vice chancellor.
