BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today warned the government of “dire consequences” if it does not sit for a dialogue immediately to create a congenial atmosphere for a fresh election.

Khaleda also hoped that the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s tougher movement after Eid-ul-Fitr will unseat Sheikh Hasina government.

“Still there is time. I will urge the government to arrange a discussion for holding a fresh and inclusive election,” she said while speaking at an Iftar party at the capital’s Ladies Club.

Liberal Democratic Party, a component in the 20-party alliance, hosted the Iftar in honour of political leaders.

In her brief speech, the BNP chief called upon all leftist and rightist organisations to get united and wage joint movement against the government.

She also asked the government not to rule the country by dint of arms power.

“These arms will cause dire consequences for you [government]. You will have to pay a lot for this,” the BNP chief warned Hasina.

Saying there is no rule in the country at present, Khaleda commented that Awami League could not control its leaders and activists who are now engaged in looting and repression.
