Incessant rain has submerged different parts of the capital in ankle-deep water, wreaking havoc on the city life today.

A total of 40 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the city in six hours till noon, Mohammad Shah Alam, director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star over phone.

The highest rainfall was recorded 41mm in Patuakhali this morning, the Met office said.

The rainfall, which is caused due to a low in the western part of the Bay of Bengal, may continue for the next two days, Shah Alam said.

Beginning early morning, the rain started to fall heavily around 8:00am and continued for two hours, submerging a number of city streets.

Roads in Green Road, Testuri Bazar and Mohammadpur areas went under ankle-deep water, causing immense sufferings to the commuters particularly office- and school-goers.

Meanwhile, most of the districts across the country are experiencing rainfall till 6:00am today, he added.

The districts include Sylhet, Chittagong, Chandpur, Mymensingh, Rangamati, Pabna, Dinajpur and Patuakhali.
