Hearing on charge framing against SQ Chy deferred

A Chittagong court yesterday deferred till August 3 the hearing on charge framing in two cases filed for vandalism and arson on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in 2010 against condemned war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
The defence moved a petition requesting the court to relieve Salauddin from the charges, while the prosecution lodged a no-confidence petition against the charge sheets.  
According to court sources, on November 7, 2010, a group of people vandalised and set fire to vehicles in Bansbaria and Salimpur areas in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.
Following the incident, police filed two cases with Sitakunda Police Station in this connection.
Later, on September 12, 2011 charge sheets of the cases were submitted with SQ Chowdhury as a prime accused.
The prosecution yesterday moved the no-confidence petition as Aslam Chowdhury, convener of BNP, Chittagong north, was acquitted of the charges.
