India to gift Bangladesh 20 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine; will arrive on Jan 20

The Health Services Division of the health ministry today issued a circular saying that the Indian government will provide 20 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazenca Covid-19 vaccines (Covishield) to Bangladesh.

A special flight of India carrying the consignment will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on January 20.

The Indian government will gift Bangladesh the vaccines, sources in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said earlier today.

Contacted, Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of DGHS, confirmed to The Daily Star that the doses will reach Bangladesh on January 20.

Earlier today, Health Minister Zahid Maleque had said that India will supply some shots of Covid-19 vaccine as gifts.
