Govt shuts down Care Medical College in Dhaka

The government cancelled all authorisation of Care Medical College on Iqbal Road of Dhaka's Mohammadpur today (November 2, 2022).

The authorisation of the private medical college has been cancelled as its authorities have failed to maintain the quality of academic activities according to the regulation, said a circular issued today by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in this regard.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the ministry on October 23, the circular added.

The decision came after a committee of the Department of Health Education inspected the medical college on June 16 and submitted a report based on the inspection, which cited lack of proper academic environment and adequate number of teachers at the college among other aspects, the circular also read.

Also, at a meeting of the college's principal and governing body with the secretary of the ministry held later, the authorities of the medical college expressed unwillingness to continue its operation, adding that no student has been admitted to the college in MBBS course for 2021-22 session.

As such, the government decided to cancel all authorisation of the private medical college, the circular added.

Earlier, the government had suspended admission of students to MBBS course at the college from 2016-17 session onwards due to failure to comply with the regulations.
