A mobile court sealed three private clinics and hospitals and also fined three others in Tangail today on various charges, including operating business without licences.

Executive Magistrate Ranuara Khatun, also an upazila nirbahi officer in Tangail, conducted the drive along with the members of health department and law enforcement agencies, reports our local correspondent.

Three private hospitals -- Padma, Amanat, and Swadesh -- were sealed, and three others -- Digilab, The City, and Comfort -- were fined a total of Tk 80,000 for operating without a licence and for violating rules and regulations, the executive magistrate said.

She added that such drives will continue in the future.

According to the Tangail District Civil Surgeon Office, about 181 of the district's 300 private clinics and hospitals are running without any approval.

Nowshad Rana Sunvee, a well-known rights activist in Tangail, said, "Many of the licenced private clinics and hospitals in the districts, including the large ones in the town, have been doing brisk business without having necessary workforces and also not following rules and regulations."
