Global leader in cardiac treatment launches Bangladesh chapter

American College of Cardiology (ACC) today launched its Bangladesh chapter with the aspiration to develop treatment of cardiac diseases in the country.

Mary Norine Walsh, president-elect of ACC, inaugurated the chapter, which is the first in South-East Asia, at a ceremony held at Le Méridien hotel in Dhaka around 12:00pm.

ACC is the world's leading organisation working on heart diseases, operating in 39 countries with around 50,000 cardiologists under its platform.

Prof Afzalur Rahman, head of cardiology department at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, was announced as its governor at the ceremony chaired by National Professor Brig (retd) Abdul Malik.

"ACC is playing an important role for cardiac health around the world, and we hope it will be able to help the people in Bangladesh by launching its chapter here," said Prof Malik.

Bangladesh Cardiac Society President Prof AKM Mohibullah and General Secretary Abdullah A Shafi Majumder also spoke at the programme.
