45m people affected by fatty liver in Bangladesh: Study

Forty-five million people have been affected by fatty liver in Bangladesh, according to a recent research.

The study result was revealed at a scientific seminar titled 'Prevalence of Fatty Liver and Risk Factors of It' organized by Hepatology Society Dhaka.

A total of 2,782 study participants were included in the research that started in December 2015 and ended in January 2017.

Of the study participants, 73.21 percent rural obese women were found to be affected by fatty liver. The study also found 71.18 percent participants, who are diabetic, suffer from fatty liver.

A very sharp increase in fatty liver prevalence was observed with an increase in weight. Around 44.05 percent overweight and 63.55 percent obese participants suffer from fatty liver.

The study results also depicted that the prevalence of fatty liver increases with age.

Liver disease such as Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer related death is the eighth most common cause of death in Bangladesh, according to the report.

Fatty liver disease is known to be a significant contributor to liver-related mortality.
