Dengue fever: Cases outside Dhaka cross 2000-mark, 189 hospitalised in a day

At least 189 dengue patients were hospitalised in the 24 hours preceding 8:00am today of whom 25 are from outside Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the 25 new infections, the number of dengue cases outside Dhaka crossed the 2000-mark.

Meanwhile a total of 6,538 patients were diagnosed during this month out of a total 16,894 infected this year. Of the total infected, 2,012 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 7,698 were diagnosed in August, 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June while 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.

According to the DGHS, 59 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year, all of whom died between July, August and September.

Twelve people died in July, 34 died in August and 13 in September so far.

Among the deaths 54 have died in Dhaka division, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi division.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1,048 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 221 are being treated outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
