Dengue fever: Cases cross 14,000 mark, 321 hospitalised in a day

The number of dengue cases in the country has crossed the 14,000-mark for the first time this year with 321 new hospitalisations in 24 hours till 8:00 am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the new cases, only 75 are from outside Dhaka.

So far, a total of 3,865 cases were diagnosed during this month out of the total 14,221 infected and of them only 1482 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 7698 were diagnosed in August, 2286 patients in July, 272 in June and 43 in May, according to the DGHS.

So far, 54 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year and all them died between July, August and September.

Twelve people died in July while 34 have died in August and eight in September so far.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1271 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 191 are being treated outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
