123 hospitalised with dengue fever in 24 hours

At least 123 patients were hospitalised with dengue fever in the 24 hours preceding 8:00am today, including seven patients from outside Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the new cases, a total of 3,933 patients have been diagnosed with dengue in October so far out of a total 22,130 infected this year. Of the total infected, at least 3,121 are from outside Dhaka.

The number of infected was 7,841 in September, 7,698 in August, 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May while the rest were diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease between January and April, according to the DGHS.

The death toll from dengue this year stands at 84 people in the country so far, the DGHS data revealed. All the deaths were reported between July and October.

Of them, 12 people died in July, 34 in August, 23 in September and 15 in October so far.

Among the deaths, 78 were reported in Dhaka division, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions, and one each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.

At least 780 patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka, 155 are being treated outside the capital, while the rest have been released following recovery, the DGHS data shows.
