Khaleda Zia registers for Covid-19 vaccine

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has registered through the Surokkha app to receive her Covid-19 vaccine.

"Madam has already registered but did not get her date of vaccination. She will receive the jab from Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital," AZM Zahid Hossain, Khaleda Zia's personal physician and vice chairman of the party, told The Daily Star.

Zahid also said the BNP chief registered on July 8.

Khaleda tested positive for the virus on April 11. Later on, she was admitted to Evercare Hospital on April 27. The former premier tested negative for Covid-19 on May 8.

She stayed in the hospital for more than a month and is still under supervision of the physicians.

The government released Khaleda from jail on March 25 last year, suspending her sentence as per section 401 (1) of the Criminal Code of Procedure. The suspension was later extended twice.

The BNP chairperson landed in jail on February 8, 2018, after a special court sentenced her to five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. On October 30, 2018, the High Court raised her punishment to 10 years.
