India reports over 3 lakh Covid cases in 24 hours

India's recorded 317,532 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which pushed the caseload to 38,218,773, according to the health ministry's data.

This is the first time in the last eight months that India reported more than three lakh daily caseload, public health experts said, adding the last time this had happened was in May last year, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

The country reported fresh deaths of 491 while 223,990 more patients recuperated from the viral disease in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total numbers of deaths and recoveries have climbed to 487,693 and 35,807,029 respectively. The active cases are nearing the two million mark and currently constitute 4.83 percent of total cases.

Yesterday, the country registered nearly 283,000 fresh cases, 441 deaths and 188,157 recoveries.
