Govt to buy 9cr disposable syringes from Chinese firm

The government will buy nine crores disposable syringes directly from a Chinese company to administer the Covid-19 vaccines.

It was approved at a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs today with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Additional Secretary Shamsul Arefin of the Cabinet Division made the briefing after the meeting.

Shamsul Arefin said the syringes will be bought directly from the company to save time as more vaccines will reach Bangladesh soon.

Also, the other sources do not have the capacity to supply huge quantities of syringes, the additional secretary said.

The Ministry of Finance, in a press release issued in this regard, said the government now will have to buy nine crores disposable syringes on emergency basis to vaccinate two crore people every month.  

For this reason, the government has approved the proposal to buy nine crores of disposable syringes directly from China National Pharmaceuticals Foreign Trade Corporation.
