Covid-19 infection rate didn't go down during Eid holidays: DGHS

The Covid-19 infection rate was still high even though there were fewer tests conducted during the Eid holidays, said Dr Nazmul Islam, spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), at a virtual briefing today.

"Considering the infection rate, Dhaka district is now at the top which has exceeded 4 lakh cases already. Then there are Chattogram, Cumilla, Sylhet, Bogura, Narayanganj, Khulna, Faridpur, respectively. The lowest number of Covid-19 cases has been reported in Rajshahi, which is 18,416," he said.

Dhaka division is also at the top considering the death rate and Khulna division is in the second position, Nazmul said.

In the last seven days, fewer samples were collected. Therefore, the number of patients has also decreased, he said.

However, the infection rate did not fall below 30 percent. Rather, on July 24, the infection rate was 32.55 percent. July 19 saw the highest death toll of 231. The lowest death toll was 166 on July 23, said the DGHS official.

A total of 202,113 samples have been tested till July 24. Compared to the previous week, the test rate has decreased by 28.94 percent. But, the recovery rate has increased by 18.45 percent during this period, he said.

"Our experts are testing the mobile ventilators that have come from the United States. These will be placed where needed," added Nazmul.
