Record 264 Covid-19 deaths, 12,744 cases recorded in 24 hours

Two hundred and sixty-four people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am today, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This is the highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic started in the country last year.

The total number of Covid deaths in the country now stands at 21,902 and the overall death rate at 1.66 percent.

At least 12,744 new infections were reported during this period, taking the overall number of infections to 13,22,654 added the release.

The current positivity rate is 27.12 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 16.54 percent.

A total of 46,995 samples were tested across the country during the period.

At least 15,786 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 11,56,943 and the recovery rate at 87.47 percent.

Among the 264 deceased, 140 were men and 124 were women.

Of them, one was between 0-10 years old, one was within 11-20 years old, five were between 21-30, 25 between 31-40, 31 between 41-50, 59 between 51-60, 74 between 61-70, 50 within 71-80, 15 between 81-90 and three between 91-100 years old, added the release.
