Hasina tasks Quader to deal with rebels

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today entrusted Communications Minister Obaidul Quader to act as coordinator in managing Awami League rebel candidates in the upcoming upazila elections.

At the weekly cabinet meeting, she said party rebels must be managed to avoid further debacle in the local body elections.

Hasina, also the AL president, directed Quader, also a presidium member of the ruling party, to sit with the party organising secretaries and give necessary directives to the upazila AL rebels to quit electoral race at any cost, several cabinet sources told The Daily Star after the meeting.

The premier told the meeting that rebel candidates led to debacle for the ruling party in the first phase of the polls.
